Why put your phone system in Teams
Teams Phone is flexible and easy to use. Whether you're at your desk, working from home, travelling, or grabbing a coffee between client visits, your business number rings on the device in front of you. Answer on your laptop, switch to your mobile mid-call, and never miss an enquiry.
It's intelligent and connected. Because calling is built into Teams, it works alongside everything else your team already uses — chat, meetings, calendars and files. That means fewer apps to juggle, smoother workflows, and one place for every conversation. For many of our clients, moving calls into Teams is the natural next step in a wider modern workplace setup across Microsoft 365.
And it's secure, reliable and easy to manage. Teams Phone runs in Microsoft's cloud, so there's no PBX hardware to buy, house or maintain. Administration happens in one place, updates are automatic, and Microsoft's security controls protect every call.
Moving from your old phone system
Switching doesn't mean starting over. In most cases you can port your existing phone numbers across to Teams Calling, so your clients keep dialling the numbers they already know. We plan the changeover around your business to keep disruption to a minimum.
We'll also help you choose the right calling plans and Microsoft 365 licences, set up desk phones and headsets where you need them — you can browse headsets and workspace gear with NZD pricing in our online shop — and show your team how to get the most from the platform.
And if Teams isn't the right fit for every phone in the building — reception desks, warehouses or shared areas, for example — our cloud PBX phone systems can cover those spots alongside Teams Calling, or stand alone.

FAQs
Frequently asked questions
What is Teams Calling?
Teams Calling is the phone system built into Microsoft Teams. Instead of running a separate PBX, your business makes and receives standard phone calls from the Teams app on a computer, smartphone, tablet or Teams-certified desk phone. Voicemail, call transfer and conference calling are all included, and calls travel over your internet connection rather than a traditional phone line.
How does Teams Calling differ from a traditional phone system?
A traditional phone system relies on on-premises PBX hardware in a comms cupboard; Teams Calling runs entirely in Microsoft's cloud. You still get the calling features a business expects — call forwarding, voicemail, auto attendants and conference calling — but they live inside the Teams interface your staff already use, updates arrive automatically, and there is no hardware to buy, house or maintain.
Can we call normal landlines and mobiles from Teams?
Yes. With a calling plan attached, Teams Calling makes and receives calls to and from standard local, national, mobile and international numbers — the other party just sees a normal phone call from your business number. Anyone can ring your number from any phone and the call arrives in the Teams app, so clients never need to know you changed systems.
What devices can I use for Teams Calling?
Teams Calling works on Windows and Mac computers, iPhones and Android phones, tablets, and Teams-certified desk phones and headsets. Your business number follows you across all of them, so you can answer at your desk, move a call to your mobile, or put a desk phone on reception — whatever suits how your team works.
Is Teams Calling suitable for a small NZ business?
Teams Calling suits businesses of every size, from a handful of staff to large enterprises. Licensing is per user per month, so a small business only pays for the people who need a number, and you add or remove users as the team changes. Because there is no PBX hardware to outgrow, the same system scales as you hire.
What happens to our phone numbers when we move calling into Teams?
Your numbers come with you rather than being replaced. Solution Squad arranges the port from your current provider, assigns each number to the right Teams user or call queue, and schedules the cutover outside busy hours so callers notice nothing. Until the port completes, your old service keeps ringing, so there is no gap in coverage.
How secure is Teams Calling?
Teams Calling is protected by the same security as the rest of Microsoft 365: calls are encrypted, sign-in can be locked down with multi-factor authentication, and admin controls decide who can call where. As a Microsoft Partner, Solution Squad configures these settings to match your business, and managed IT clients have 24/7 support if anything looks wrong.
